A rebranding for an area environmental group may not be popular with everyone.

WisCorps, which operates at the Myrick Park Center in La Crosse, decided to change its name, executive director Matt Brantner told the La Crosse Park Board on Thursday.

The group changed its name to The Nature Place on March 29.

“That really helps people understand the environmental education center in Myrick Park as being a place where folks can come in, it’s a community center based in nature,” Brantner said.

By calling itself The Nature Place, however, it could cause confusion for the public, according to park board member Todd Olson.

“The Myrick name will be lost,” Olson said. “They’ll know it’s Myrick Park, but they won’t know Myrick Park Center,” which hosts events not connected with WisCorps programs.

Olson also was disappointed that the proposal for a Nature Place sign wasn’t brought to the park board months ago, when the decision was originally made.
