The newest Top 10 list of endangered buildings in La Crosse could include some local schools.

Longfellow Middle School is one of three La Crosse school buildings considered for special historic designation in the city

The city’s Heritage Preservation Commission is being asked to consider adding the Lincoln, Longfellow, and Hogan school buildings to the listing of older structures that could be torn down.

Hogan has been used as the school district headquarters for decades. Lincoln Middle School is being closed at the end of summer.

Senior Planner Tim Acklin said the Glory Days bar at 4th and King streets could also be placed on the endangered list, while the Casino Bar on Pearl Street may be taken off the list because of renovation plans there.

Glory Days, decorated with a Packers theme, stands next to the lot where the India Curry House burned down last April.

The Historical Preservation Commission is compiling its new “most endangered” list for 2023, which usually includes 10 local structures.
