Music, food, auction bring donors downtown to help La Crosse fire victims
This coming Saturday will mark one month since a large fire destroyed a La Crosse restaurant, and several apartments above it. On Sunday, the community helped out the people who lost their homes in the India Curry House fire.
A silent auction and a long list of local singers and bands were part of the fundraiser based at the Popcorn Tavern on 4th Street.
Organizer Chris Stolpa says other benefit efforts are in the works.
“This is where people see that we’re helping each other and see what happens,” Stolpa says. “So if we can start the ball rolling, from here on out we can start building…a life, a way of living where that we can promote helping people.”
Stolpa says he knows a few of the people who lost close to everything in the April 28th fire. No one was hurt in the fire, but the century-old building was a total loss.
