One dead after Chevy Malibu crashes head-on into semi in Monroe County
One man is dead after a Monroe County crash head-on collision between a car and semi.
The accident happened around 6 a.m. Monday Highway 21, west of Enterprise Road, in the Town of LaGrange. It shut down traffic for six hours.
A 2008 Chevy Malibu was headed West on Hwy. 21 when it crossed the centerline and hit the oncoming semi head on.
The driver of the Malibu, 20-year-old Kyle Petrick, a Medford, Wis., native, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only one in the car.
The 2003 Freightliner semi did not have a trailer. It was driven by a 52-year-old and did not have a young passenger, though their age was not disclosed. That passenger was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver was not injured.
A large amount of debris scattered across the highway, and a large amount of diesel fuel spilled in the area.
The highway was shut down for almost six hours to investigate, remove vehicles and clean up the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Monroe County Communications Center, Wisconsin State Patrol, Tomah Police Department, Oakdale Fire Department, Tomah Area Ambulance Service, Tomah Fire Department Rescue Techs, Monroe County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Tomah Wrecker Service, Monroe County Emergency Management, and the Monroe County Highway Department.
