Money for PFAS and climate change to be discussed by La Crosse’s city council
Funding for PFAS testing and climate change will be discussed by La Crosse city council members during its May meetings.
Later this week, the city finance committee will be asked to spend up to $150,000 more on efforts to find and eliminate PFAS chemicals in wells near the La Crosse airport.
The money is likely to come from the city’s existing contingency fund, and money set aside for airport use.
Another proposal for the committee calls for $187,000 to be spent on hiring a consultant to lead local sustainability programs.
Money for that effort would be transferred from Xcel energy credits and the city’s floodplain program.
Some of the funds would go to pay for legal services related to PFAS chemicals.
This week’s two council committee meetings, on Tuesday and Thursday nights, will be held at the Southside Neighborhood Center on 6th Street. Several meetings will happen there, while the city council chambers go through asbestos removal and a makeover.
