Evidence heard in alleged homicide of Holmen man

A man was found dead in the snow, with multiple injuries, on this day two years ago, outside his house in Holmen.

Mark Phillips’s wife Lori is accused of reckless homicide, possibly having hit Mark with a pickup truck after a fight.

Sheriff’s investigators have testified in La Crosse County court in the case against Mrs. Phillips, who’s still awaiting trial.  Lori Phillips says she thinks Mark died accidentally, perhaps falling down while trying to pursue her.

La Crosse County investigator Fritz Leinfelder says when he responded to the scene that February day in 2019, he did not form an opinion about whether Lori caused the death, even though he arranged for an autopsy on Mark Phillips, because it appeared the deceased had been hit by a vehicle or thrown onto the snow.

Judge Elliott Levine will hear more testimony in the case in March, and could rule then on pre-trial motions about evidence.
