Opioid abuse funding comes to La Crosse County

Published

on

A full-time social worker could be hired by La Crosse County to manage its opioid addiction programs.

The position would be funded as part of a $400,000 grant from the state department of health services.

County board members plan to vote later this week on accepting the grant and proposals for spending the money.

About one-third of the grant money would be used for residential treatment of people addicted to opioids.

The county medical examiner says La Crosse County reported 22 drug overdose deaths last year, but the total for 2020 could be 40 or more.
