Public market plan for La Crosse may need more study

Published

Early in the year, developers planning a public market for La Crosse narrowed the possible location down to three ideal sites.

Two of them are along the La Crosse River, and the third is the area of the post office.

Now, the city is being asked to spend $50,000 on a study of the southside festgrounds area as the preferred site.

Andrea Schnick from the city planning office says she’s ready to negotiate with people who own property in the festgrounds neighborhood.

Funding for a study could be approved in the capital improvement budget, being reviewed at a meeting next Monday.

The other finalists for a market site are the old Mobil Oil property, now known as River Point, and the post office area.
