Fewer road trips, and a lot less flying this summer in US
Now that Americans are feeling the freedom to travel again, millions of them are expected to hit the road this summer.
The AAA predicts about 700 million trips will be taken in the U.S., during July, August, and September.
That will be down about 15 per cent from the total number of trips taken in the summer of 2019.
AAA predicts a 74 per cent drop in airplane travel compared to last year, and 86 per cent fewer cruises or railroad trips, but the number of car trips will go down only about 3 per cent.
How busy will the highways be?
The travel organization says Wisconsin and Iowa will be among states where traffic congestion will be the highest this summer.
Minnesota is in the middle group of states, and road congestion will be low in Illinois, including Chicago.
Because of coronavirus, the agency made no predictions this year on the amount of holiday travel for either Memorial Day or the 4th of July.
