City of La Crosse opens more hiking trails for spring

April has arrived in La Crosse, and some outdoor trails are ready for the season. 

Those trails include Hixon Forest, the Dobson and Hass Tracts, and the Mathy Quarry. 

City park officials had kept those trails closed until now because they weren’t in proper condition yet after the winter. 

The Upper Hixon trails are not ready for use yet, and the Willow Trail through the marsh remains underwater.

Hikers and bikers were ready to get out on trails in March, as a reason to get outdoors amid massive shutdowns of activities because of the coronavirus.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
