The Dancers are now at their new home.

The metal sculpture which was removed from the Pump House parking lot early in the summer has now been installed at a new site on the opposite side of Front Street.

There was word that the artist, Donna Gerke Cutta, was unhappy with having the sculpture moved.

But Doug Weidenbach, the chair of the La Crosse arts board, says the Dancers needed repairs anyway.

Weidenbach says Gerke Cutta’s reaction to the results of repainting and moving ‘Dancers’ went from hating the idea to ‘love it, love it, love it.’

He hopes to have the artist return to La Crosse in September for a ceremonial unveiling of the Dancers in their new spot outside the Weber Center.

‘Dancers’ was installed on a pedestal near the Pump House in 2003.

The artwork and pedestal were removed early this summer, so there would be more room in the Pump House lot for the annual Artspire festival.
