The Mississippi River is getting close to flood stage in La Crosse, but the water may not actually reach the 12-foot flood level until next week.

The latest flood report from the National Weather Service says the river level at La Crosse rose to 11.7 feet on Sunday, but could drop to 11.5 feet by Friday or Saturday.

Twelve feet is possible by Monday afternoon.

The flood level has been reached already at McGregor, and almost at Trempealeau.

Meanwhile, a dozen homes have been evacuated on one part of the Trempealeau River, because of late winter flooding.

High water in the town of Dodge has forced several families to stay at the town hall.

The river crested at 13.4 feet on Saturday, and it’s now down to 11 feet and could stay at or above that level the rest of this week.
