Five choices for a new branch of court…34 years ago
The court system in La Crosse County had grown enough by 1985 to require a fourth circuit. Five candidates were running that winter for the chance to be the first judge in Branch 4. The list of candidates included Marvin Davis, Pat Heim, Maureen Kinney, John Waubunsee, and the eventual winner, John Perlich.
In Washington, the Senate Judiciary Committee had approved the nomination of Edwin Meese to be attorney general. Meese’s confirmation came at the start of President Reagan’s second term.
Some of the popular restaurants around the area that winter included Le Bistro at Valley View Mall…Esteban’s on 3rd Street…the New Villa on Ward Avenue…the West Channel Eatery…the Boatworks at the Radisson…and Oscar’s Little Chicago in Onalaska. McDonald’s also had a location inside the mall, along with its downtown outlet at 4th and Main, the Bridgeview location on George Street…and Losey Boulevard, in 1985, yesterday in La Crosse.
