La Crosse sculpture expected to stay in place until May, city taking bids to refurbish
The metal sculpture in the Pump House parking lot won’t be moved until at least the middle of May, if it’s moved at all.
The La Crosse arts board has been told that 90 days notice is legally required before the ‘Dancers’ sculpture can be taken off its concrete pedestal.
The Pump House has asked to have the art work relocated, partly to free up more parking space, and exhibit space during the ‘Artspire’ festival in June.
Recent University of Wisconsin-La Crosse graduate Ashley Dechant offered to refurbish the sculpture for $1,200 but the arts board may legally have to advertise for more offers.
The metal ‘Dancers’ sculpture is high on a list of public works of art in La Crosse that need maintenance, or at least a new coat of paint.
