Biggest snowfall in La Crosse since April sets the stage for extreme cold
Onalaska got 9.5 inches and La Crosse saw around 8 inches in the snowstorm that started Sunday night.
It’s the heaviest snowfall in the city since a late spring storm April 18 that left 6 inches of snow.
Meteorologist Todd Shea at the National Weather Service on the bluff said snow totals overnight have been fairly uniform around the region.
Shea says the new blanket of snow is likely to keep the air cold, especially with an arctic blast coming Tuesday and Wednesday.
Windchill temps are predicted to hit as low as negative 55 degrees Tuesday night. Check out the timeline here.
That could break a 23-year-old record.
The mercury got down to 36 below zero on Feb. 3, 1996, capping off a full week of below-zero temps in La Crosse.
