Plans for a new college arts center, 52 years ago
In January of 1967, a $1 million grant was approved for Viterbo’s Fine Arts Center. The state higher educational aids commission said “yes” to the money. The grant would still have to be okayed by Washington. The $4 million arts center along Jackson Street would open in 1971.
A zookeeper had an encounter with a bear, at Prairie du Chien, in the Rose Park Zoo. The man needed 17 stitches after a honeybear bit his finger and clawed his arm. The zookeeper was trying to cage the animal at the time. The Rose Park Zoo closed a few years later.
“The Lawrence Welk Show” dedicated an entire episode to music from Walt Disney movies, just a few weeks after Disney died. “Batman” was a big hit on ABC, and it inspired some copycat superhero shows…”Captain Nice” on NBC, starring William Daniels, and “Mr. Terrific” on CBS. Both shows began in January, but were gone by fall in 1967, yesterday in La Crosse.
