Walker makes birthday campaign pitch in Onalaska
Wisconsin’s governor spent part of his 51st birthday on Friday in La Crosse County, bringing other Republican candidates with him for final-weekend campaigning.
Scott Walker enjoyed a special birthday cake by local baker Jen Barney during his evening stop at the Salon Professional Academy in Onalaska…owned by Sue Kolve and her husband, county GOP chair Bill Feehan. The governor spoke along with Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir, as part of a one-day trek from Rhinelander to southwest Wisconsin.
Walker describes his race against Tony Evers as “razor-thin.” Recent polls have shown Vukmir trailing incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin by double digits. But both Walker and Vukmir say the choice between them and their Democratic opponents is very clear.
The governor says Evers wants to increase both taxes and spending, and that would cost the state jobs. Vukmir describes Baldwin as a career politician who “cancels out” the votes of Wisconsin’s other Senator, Republican Ron Johnson.
