Couple accused of keeping kids in cages returns to court next year

It looks like a Monroe County couple accused of keeping their kids inside of cages won’t be back in court until early next year.

Travis and Amy Headrick of Melvina were supposed to have a pretrial hearing Wednesday in Sparta but, partly at the request of the defense, the hearing has been rescheduled for Jan. 2.

That’s OK with district attorney Kevin Croninger because, he says, his office is busy right now.

The preliminary hearing usually takes place a week after an arrest. The Headricks were arrested in August.

Sheriff’s officers found a couple of children, between the ages of 10 and 15, penned up in makeshift cages.

Mrs. Headrick said the kids were confined to keep them from harming themselves.

That is not true we would not harm ourselves! I was locked in my room almost all day and I had to be in my bed all the time. I even had a alarm on me.

I am also so glad that my Aunt Becky called the cops. I wanted to leave so many, times and call the cops. One time she kicked me so hard that my hip hit the toilet seat and broke it from one hard hit. There was also some more times when she grabbed me by the neck and would pin me up to the wall and literally choke me. There was some more times when she almost literally drowned me. Travis and Amy would even let the boys ( Eli, Malachi and Levi) with also Britney be mean to me and beat me up.

I am so sorry that this happened. I was about to report it when Amy and Travis had the kids make those accusations. I’m pretty sure they did it to get me out of the house. 2 days before it happened, I told Any I was going to report her. I am so sorry I wasn’t able to help sooner.

I taught two of their now adult children. I sensed something wasn’t right because the young man never wanted to go home. That couple should rot in hell for what they did!
