Demolition begins at Riverside Park bandstand

The benches are gone, the lights are down and the stage is a bit torn up.

Construction crews have started the process of renovating the Riverside Park bandstand in La Crosse’s Riverside Park.

The decades-old bandstand has needed repairs for years, and that work should be finished by spring.

After that, the parks department plans to erect a canopy over the stage, at a cost of around $500,000.

Users of the stage are lining up corporate sponsorships.

    Correction to this article:

The primary users of the current Band Stand are fundraising $500,000 to build an acoustical Shell covering the Band Stand. No public funds will be used. The acoustic design of the shell will reflect sound to audiences and to performers on stage. It will also shelter performers from most weather and provide ambient lighting.
