County board chair upset with shortage of road funding from Madison
While Gov. Scott Walker’s administration says it’s giving a lot of transportation money to local governments in Wisconsin, La Crosse County leaders disagree.
La Crosse County Board chair Tara Johnson claims state funding for road projects is only about half the level it should be. She says only about 17 percent of the county’s transportation funding comes from Madison and the amount should be closer to 30 percent.
Johnson says a shortage of financing from the state has made the referendums necessary.
“We need to hear from local voters on what their preferred choices for the local options that are available bc the state is not hitting the mark,” she said.
So the county is putting four referendums about road construction on the fall ballot.
The board’s executive committee meets today to discuss an informational campaign on whether to spend $30,000 to publicize the four transportation referendums.
Four options for raising local road money are scheduled to appear on the November ballot in the county.

Another $30,000. They spent that on the PRAT garbage. Put it into fixing the roads!
Johnson and the Democrats raised the County Debt to $100 Million. They are spending $5.7 Million per year on County Debt. They claim to need $5 Million for roads. We were told all that borrowing wouldn’t raise taxes. Do the math. They ran up the credit card and now WE have to pay.
Madison increased state aid to La Crosse County last year. The roads here are “so bad” that they routed a bunch of that increase to things other than road repair. Johnson and the Democrats on the La Crosse County Board LIED to you and are still lying.
