Sparta teen dies in car crash

Monroe County has reported its first traffic death of 2018, following a weekend crash at a bridge in Sparta.

Joshua Michel of Sparta was found partially ejected from his car, which had left the road and crossed Farmer’s Valley Creek. Police believe the car crossed the creek and ended up in some rocks.

The accident scene was discovered late Sunday morning.

The 19-year-old had been seen about 12 hours earlier, leaving a local bar. Police suspect alcohol and speed may have contributed to the accident.
