In Milwaukee, they’re banning children from visiting patients in fear of spreading the flu.

It’s ravaging the county, forcing the Children’s Hospital of Milwaukee to take the temporary measure.

Locally, Megan Mueller with Gundersen Health System in La Crosse says they haven’t made that decision yet.

“We’re constantly evaluating the situation based off of what’s going on within the county, within the state,” she said. “Currently, we are advising visitors not visiting any patients if they’re not feeling well but that is all we’re doing.”

Mueller added that it is difficult to say how many patients have actually been treated for the flu.

“You’re going to come in and have flu-like symptoms and they’re going to tell you just to go home and wait it out,” she said. “So, it’s really hard to gauge, just what exactly our numbers are. We have limited numbers.”

Since 1982-83, February is when flu season is at its peak, according to the CDC.
