Jake Speed’s been censured by board

Despite a recall election looming tomorrow for the Onalaska school district, it’s business as usual for the school board tonight.

The board meets to conduct regular, everyday business on the eve of the recall election for Jake Speed.

Speed has been at odds with the rest of the school board and district staff essentially since he took office a couple of years ago.

He’s been censured by the school board and continues to rail against the district on social media.  He’s said he’s the target of “defaming” accusations and personal character attacks and has suggested a conspiracy surrounding efforts to remove him from office.

He’s also claimed that lies have been used by those who organized the recall in order to collect signatures.

Former school board member Deanna Verdon is Speed’s opponent in tomorrow’s election.

Speed was at the board’s last meeting a couple of weeks ago. It’s unclear whether he plans on attending tonight.

WIZM requests for comment from Speed have gone unanswered.
