Old building was torn down in February for road improvements

The Golden Arches have returned to Bridgeview Plaza.

Kristina Schoh of the Courtesy Corporation welcomed a VIP audience to the new McDonald’s on George St.

Customers got to try the new kiosk system, where they can place an order on a video screen without having to wait in line at the counter.

The new building is a short distance from where McDonald’s, which opened in 1972, had to shut down Feb. 27, to make way for road improvements.

Restaurant owner Rick Lommen said he called on friends in state government to see if the old place couldn’t be spared.

“I had spoken with Mike Huebsch,” Lommen said, referring to the former State Assemblyman and Wisconsin Administration secretary.

“His first job was here.  And, he informed me that, yes the road was going to be put through our restaurant and there was nothing that the DOT could do about it.”

The new building officially opens for business at 5 a.m. Thursday.
