Collaborative to End Homelessness had 100 days to house 20 veterans.

It was a lofty goal, finding house for 20 veterans in 100 days who were classified as chronically homeless.

The goal, however, set out by the La Crosse Collaborative to End Homelessness, has nearly been met.

The July 31 deadline is fast approaching but, as of Monday, Kim Cable with the group told the La Crosse County board it only needed to find housing for six more vets.

But, according to the website Wednesday morning, that number is now five. The group has now found housing for 15 veterans, getting 75 percent of the way “home.”

Cable is optimistic that the goal can be reached.

Later this month, the annual Homeless Connect event to provide services for people without housing will be held at the La Crosse Center.
