Minnesota Senator spoke on Facebook

Recent trade negotiations in Washington, D.C., have taken place between representatives from the U.S. and China.

But, while many congressmen – both Democrats and Republicans – have been interviewed about the impending Donald Trump presidency, Senator Al Franken of (D-Minn.) says it’s time to focus on his district, which includes Winona, Minn.

Franken wrote on his Facebook page and posted the following video: “Today should have been a special day for millions of working Americans, including 75,000 Minnesotans. That’s because the U.S. Department of Labor overtime rule was supposed to go into effect—a rule that could have significantly increased the number of workers who could have qualified for overtime when they work more than 40 hours in a week. Four million workers could have benefited from the improved rule, which hadn’t been meaningfully improved for workers in more than 40 years. But instead, the updated rule has been blocked by a Texas judge, meaning that these working people won’t benefit. I took to the Senate floor today with Senator Jeff Merkley to urge my colleagues to pledge to keep fighting for a fair system for all workers, and to continue to fight to make sure these workers get what they deserve.”
