Community gathers to discuss odd amount of cigarette ads in La Crosse
Students cleaned up 1,456 cigarette
butts in Powell Park last month
A few weeks ago, students brought awareness to a growing problem with cigarettes.
Not smoking itself, but littering. Students from 7 Rivers Community School played red flags for every cigarette butt they picked up at Powell Park. The ended up with 1,456 butts.
Those students are presenting their experience and to talk about other anti-tobacco efforts at 5 p.m. tonight at the Southside Neighborhood Center.
The meeting is called Young Lungs at Play and will, in part, discuss the unusually high amount of tobacco advertising found in the Powell-Poage neighborhood.
“There’s certainly is a discrepancy or disparity there, and we’re talking about the impact that that has on the community and on the children,” Judi Zabel with the La Crosse Area Health Initiative said..
