City asking for public comments on entire plan

A couple of new pools could be in the future for La Crosse.

In the city parks department’s just-released five-year strategic plan, pool upgrades are listed for both the city’s Forest Hills Golf Course and the current Memorial Pool site.

A pool used to be at Forest Hills but was removed by the city several years ago.

The parks dept. has talked about replacing the 80-year-old Memorial Pool because of its deteriorating condition and high-maintenance costs.

Several other projects are in the department’s strategic plan, including a new clubhouse at Forest Hills.

The dept. is currently seeking public comments on the five-year plan, which can be found here.

Also part of the plan are the city’s hiking trails.

One-third of La Crosse park users don’t live in the city and hiking trails are the most important amenity in the parks department.

A survey of a few hundred users find that trails, youth programs and neighborhood centers are the Top 3 most important things for those users.

The strategic plan calls for updates at a number of parks as well as updated plans for all of the city’s trail systems.

Other projects in the plan include bathhouse and pool updates at Memorial.
