Local schools receive Title I recognition awards

Two in La Crosse and others
in Sparta, Ettrick awarded
Two La Crosse elementary schools and two other schools in the area are getting recognition for helping students from low-income families do well in class.
Hintgen and North Woods International in La Crosse, along with Ettrick Elementary and Sparta’s Maplewood Elementary have received the Title I School of Recognition award from the Dept. of Public Instruction.
Both North Woods and Ettrick were named high-progress schools for improvements in math and reading test scores.
Hintgen and Maplewood received the beating-the-odds award, recognized for high academic achievement.
Nearly 170 schools that receive Title I funding to help students in low-income neighborhoods earned recognition awards.
In Crawford County, the Seneca district is being recognized for improvements at the high school, middle school, and elementary levels.
