Departments hope to Keep
Wreath Green through New Year’s

A holiday fire safety campaign in the La Crosse area has been very successful.

Local fire stations displayed Christmas wreaths with green lights throughout December, called Keep the Wreath Green.

Green lights would turn red each time a fire occurred in the participating communities on the six-foot wreath at the stations in La Crosse, La Crescent, Campbell and Onalaska.

Fires happened just twice in December – one in La Crosse and another in La Crescent – according to La Crosse assistant chief Warren Thomas

Neither fire was related to holiday decorations. The campaign ends on New Year’s Day and began on Thanksgiving.
