HOLMEN, Wis. – The long-time police chief of Holmen gets a rare honor for his upcoming retirement today.

Mike McHugh is being recognized for 36 years with the Holmen Police – he’s served in law enforcement for 42 years – with a certificate from the FBI.

The La Crosse FBI office presented him with a certificate honoring his law enforcement career, signed by bureau director James Comey. The police department says the only other area chief who has received the FBI honor is retired La Crosse Chief Ed Kondracki.

Lt. Shane Collins will succeed McHugh as chief in Holmen early in the new year.

McHugh, who began serving as chief in 1979, will have a party tonight at the Holmen American Legion.
