River Too High To Get Into Blackhawk Park

A popular park on the Mississippi in Vernon County has been shut down by high water for the second time this season…

The Army Corps of Engineers has closed Blackhawk Park north of De Soto until further notice, because of flooding on the entrance road to the park off Highway 35.  High river levels led to the park’s closing in early April, and it remained closed through the Memorial Day weekend until the very end of May.  Other recreation areas along the Mississippi also have been affected by prolonged flooding this spring and summer.
