Sheriff Touts Billings New Jail Inmate Law

Representative Jill Billings worked with the City of La Crosse

Police department and the La Crosse County Sheriff Department to create a solution to rising jail costs. The inmate transer law. Jail fees, which have increased from $55 per day, per prisoner, to $90 per day, per prisoner, led local law enforcement to seek creative alternatives from neighboring communities.

 

Sheriff Steve Helgeson says the bill helps La Crosse County as they are trying to keep their costs down.

Billings says under the new Inmate Transfer Act, La Crosse, for example, will realize a cost savings of approximately $35.00 per day, per prisoner.
