No Plan in La Crosse for Crude Oil Tanker Car Explosion

It’s no secret that the number of tanker cars carrying crude oil from North Dakota through La Crosse on the Burlington Northern system has increased dramatically.  Those appear to be the same type of cars that were part of the derailment and explosion near Casselton, North Dakota this week.  Kept county emergency management coordinator Keith Butler thinking about the same kind of explosion happening in La Crosse.  No plan in place for that right now.  Although he has worked on some other disaster planning with Burlington Northern

THe derailment and explosion caused the evacuation of about 23 hundred people from Casselton.  That’s nearly two-thirds of the town.  No reports of anyone killed or even injured in the blast.
