Drowning Of Viterbo Grad Inspires Bill To Ban High-Proof Liquor In WI

Ever since a recent Viterbo graduate drowned after drinking two years ago, that graduate’s mother has been busy campaigning to have certain types of high-proof alcohol banned.

Luanne Wielichowski hopes the Wisconsin Legislature passes a ban on high-potency liquor in 2014.  The bill being circulated in the Assembly would set five-figure fines and possible prison time for stores that sell products like Everclear.  At least one state lobbying group is expected to fight the proposed ban. Jeff Wielichowski drank Everclear with Red Bull and Gatorade the night that he drowned in his family’s swimming pool in 2011.
