Board Member Not Liking Jail Location

In 2009, 7 Monroe County Board members were recalled due their yes votes on

the approval of a new $28 million justice center. Tomah’s Pete Peterson was one of them. He eventually got re-elected but says he is not the only current board member that disagrees as to where the center will be built.

The current justice center is located in downtown Sparta. The county board voted to build the new center in downtown Sparta. Peterson and others wanted it built near Interstate 90.
