Another Shot at Veto Override Not Likely

The DNR secretary appointment issue is dead for now. La Crosse state rep, Jennifer Shilling doesn’t expect lawmakers to give another shot at overriding governor Doyle’s veto of a bill to restore DNR secretary appointment authority to the state’s natural resources board. Shilling was among those who voted to override in yesterday’s failed attempt. Says she’s not necessarily angry at the governor for his veto.   Shilling tells us that she understands how the governor’s perspective may have changed on the issue from supporting the change for several years to abruptly changing his mind last spring. 

 

 

 

The assembly override attempt fell six votes short of the two-thirds needed to be successful.
