IF YOU HAVE AN IDEA ON HOW LA CROSSE CAN PREVENT FUTURE RIVER DEATHS, THERE WILL BE A CHANCE TO SPEAK OUT THIS WEEKEND.

A COMMUNITY GATHERING IS PLANNED THIS SUNDAY AT NOON IN RIVERSIDE PARK, WHERE CITIZENS CAN TALK ABOUT THE DROWNINGS FROM THE RECENT PAST. ORGANIZER PAULA HOMP HAS A PERSONAL INTEREST IN THE DROWNINGS.  HER BROTHER DROWNED IN THE MISSISSIPPI AT LA CROSSE IN 1986, AND HE HAD BEEN DRINKING.  PEOPLE ATTENDING A TOWN MEETING AFTER THE JARED DION DROWNING IN 2004 MADE SEVERAL ANGRY ACCUSATIONS TOWARD CITY POLICE. PAULA IS ASKING THOSE WHO ATTEND SUNDAY’S EVENT TO BE CIVIL AND AVOID CONFRONTATION.
