Mayor Mitch Reynolds and other La Crosse city staffers joined in the Myrick ceremony, before the rain started.

The ceremony marked the 35th time that the La Crosse park department has officially celebrated the yearly day for planting trees. The observance of Arbor Day began more than 150 years ago in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
