Wisconsin GOP state Senate candidate Klein calls for action on roads, other issues

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers says citizens often call on him and other state officials to fix the roads.

The condition of highways around the Badger State is likely to be an issue in many elections this fall, including a La Crosse area race for Wisconsin state Senate.

Republican 32nd District state Senate candidate Stacey Klein told WIZM’s La Crosse Talk that road repair should be one of the easiest tasks to complete.

“We’re seeing a lot of areas where, you know, we need to be working on that,” said Klein, who is running against Sen. Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska). “People drive on them every day, and are probably wondering where the heck do my tax dollars go?”

Klein added that some of the state’s surplus, adding up to billions of dollars, should be used to finance needs such as road work and other infrastructure.

The Trempealeau County board member said people in her generation, around the turn of the millennium, have taken pride in helping others and she wants those values applied in state government.

“You treated everyone really well,” Klein said, referring to millennials. “There’s a lot of families that are hurting right now with the economy, and we’ve got a surplus at our state level that could be turned back to the taxpaying citizens.”

Klein says Evers likes to veto bills passed by Republican lawmakers. She hopes to promote more bipartisanship in Madison.
