Wisconsin Assembly Speaker wrongly targeted for recall

It is not often I come to the defense of Robin Vos. The Wisconsin Assembly Speaker, the state’s top Republican, has often been an uncompromising idealogue, drunk with power, his number one priority seemingly to maintain his party’s grip on power rather than serving the people of the state. But that doesn’t mean he should be recalled from office. An effort is underway to gather enough signatures to force Vos to face a recall election, apparently because he isn’t MAGA enough. The drive to recall is being led not by people in Vos’ Kenosha legislative district, but by a small group based in Arkansas, called the Arkansas Voter Integrity Initiative. The group is upset with Vos because he wouldn’t help Donald Trump overturn the results of the 2020 election in Wisconsin. Vos was cozy with Trump, but wouldn’t cross that line when asked to help overturn election results. He is smart enough to know that Joe Biden won Wisconsin, and legally there was nothing he could do to change that. It took courage for Vos to stand up to Trump, but now he is being targeted for his loyalty to the constitution. That is hardly an impeachable offense. Recalls should be reserved for those who commit high crimes and misdemeanors, not those who take a principled stand that some members of their party don’t like.
