La Crosse will have just two public swimming pools to use this summer, instead of the usual three.

Planned renovations at Erickson Pool will keep it closed for 2024. However, the city’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will be expanding hours for the North Side and Memorial pools to make up for the Erickson work.

The city pools normally operate from early June into August. Their daily hours this season will be 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

The early hours will be for swimming lessons or family swim. Open swim times will be available every afternoon during the season.

The repairs to Erickson will include a pool resurfacing and improvements to the plumbing.

Back in December, the city council allocated $425,000 to repair Erickson, after debate a week prior during the Finance and Personnel Committee’s hearing, discussing the costs of fixing the city’s pool.

The North Side pool is on Sill Street, next to Logan Middle School. Memorial Pool is next to Mitchell Hall at UW-La Crosse.
