As I See It

Who knew Tony Evers had an alias?

What are you trying to hide, Governor? It turns out Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has an alter-ego. Well, an alias anyway. Evers has been using an alternate email account when conducting official state business. A big Milwaukee Brewers fan, Evers has been corresponding with top cabinet level members and others using an email account with the name warren.spahn@Wisconsin.gov . Spahn was a Milwaukee Braves pitcher long ago, but is no longer among the living. He certainly doesn’t have an email account. So Evers decided to adopt the name for a taxpayer-funded email account. It isn’t clear why. A spokesman said something about digital security, and claims alias emails have been common at the Capitol, including under the Scott Walker administration. But why? It doesn’t matter what email address a public official uses, those communications are still a matter of public record. For a Governor who talks of the need for transparency, this isn’t a good look. At least he didn’t use the name Carlos Danger. Evers should shut down this account, and give Warren Spahn his good name back.
