As I See It

Another Van Orden tirade

Published

It is hardly conduct you would expect of a member of the United States Congress. Unfortunately, for western Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden, such behavior is becoming par for the course. The latest ugly incident happened this week in Washington, when Van Orden attended a White House briefing on the attack on Israel. For whatever reason, Van Orden became billigerent toward White House staffers who were leading the briefing, calling their presentation “pathetic” and cursing at them. When one fellow member of Congress criticized Van Orden for his boorish behavior, the former Navy Seal responded by hurling an F-bomb at him. Not exactly the type of behavior you would expect in the halls of Congress. But we shouldn’t be surprised. This is the same member of Congress who made national news recently when he cursed out teenage Senate pages during a tour of the Capitol, calling them names and swearing at them repeatedly. Then he took a bow, and returned to his office, where alcohol bottles were seen on his desk. We had a hint of his temperament, or lack thereof, during the campaign when Van Orden launched into a teenage girl at a public library in Prairie du Chien because they were displaying books with an LGBTQ theme. This pattern is becoming predictable, and pathetic. It is time for our representative in Congress to start acting like one.

So Scott, wearing Carhart sweatshirts and shorts while attending important meetings or storing thousands of dollars and gold bars in your blue Capitol jacket in your closet at home is a much better look than someone who expresses his displeasure with what is going on in our current world of turbulent politics?
Another typical rant about one party who Scott disagrees with.
Wake up, both parties have issues and you should expose that.

Mr Shaw, I do not dis-agree that individuals in congress should act with more dignity that what has been shown in the past years. You and I may have political differences in the approach to making things better but we both have family, friends, and want the best for all of them. Not only is Mr Van Orden actions not appealing, I might bring to light, Mr Schmur’s tirade aginst Gorsuch, or Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, Vice President Joe Biden famously let an expletive slip during the White House signing ceremony for the Affordable Care Act, or even the democrat Vice President Kamal Harris who outwardly states her favorite curse word starts with “mother …ends with ah”. Let’s start the conversations ato not divide but to bring our community together. I agree to call out this behavior but try to be fair and blanced in your comments.
