For the first half of 2022, highway deaths in Wisconsin are at their highest level since 2018.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said 55 people died in June accidents — the highest monthly number since 84 were killed last October.

That total, however, is still slightly lower than the five-year average for June.

The total highway deaths in Wisconsin through the end of June is 263. The average is around 250.

There are still 11 counties in Wisconsin, including Trempealeau, which have had no traffic deaths in 2022.

Wisconsin had 601 highway deaths last year.
