Sheriff’s officers in Buffalo County are investigating the discovery of a woman’s body in the Mississippi River south of Winona.

The body was located within Wisconsin territory on the river, so Buffalo County will be conducting an autopsy before the woman’s name is made public.

Authorities in Winona County were called on Tuesday afternoon, when the body was found floating in the water near Homer.

AA dive team was sent to the area around 4:30pm and pulled the body of an adult woman from the water. Police are still working to establish an identity and a cause of death.
