The Muse Theatre of La Crosse will be staying in business — moving downtown.

Earlier this week, the Muse announced it would shut down its Avon Street stage near Logan Middle School because of financial problems mostly connected to COVID-19.

But the Cavalier Theatre, based inside the old La Crosse Community Theatre (LCT) building, has posted on social media that it will be the new home of the Muse, which has been operating for 14 years. The Cavalier stage will also continue to present concerts.

LCT was based in the Cavalier building for 45 years, until moving about a decade ago to the Weber Center on the riverfront.

The social media post says that Muse director Vicki Elwood has been talking with the Cavalier about putting on Muse productions at the 5th Avenue stage.

The Muse just closed a production of “Little Shop of Horrors” this past weekend.
