Election bills, not absentee ballots, belong in the trash

They claim they are designed to restore integrity in our elections. In reality, they are simply designed to suppress the vote. Wisconsin Republicans rammed through a package of election-related bills last week, each of them making it more difficult for people to cast a ballot, fundamentally changing how elections are conducted in the state. One would prohibit local clerks from mailing absentee ballots en masse, a prudent move during a pandemic. Another would throw returned absentee ballots in the waste basket if a witness fails to include their street address. There is no reason to even require a witness signature. Many states have no such requirement. Another bill would prohibit those in long-term care facilities from getting help registering to vote. What is the harm in helping someone fill out a voter registration form properly? Yet another bill would lead to more fighting in the Wisconsin Elections Commission by allowing both parties to hire legal counsel to represent them on the commission. More lawyers only mean more legal fights. The commission is already bipartisan, with an equal number of republicans and democrats. None of these bills restore integrity to our elections. We look forward to swift vetoes from Governor Tony Evers, a fate these bills deserve.

Absentee voting was not meant for the lazy to just “mail it in”. These bills will make it harder to cheat. A corroborating signature would help insure a real LIVE person actually cast the ballot. We don’t live in Illinois, so don’t try to make it possible for the dead to vote.

Well I guess that’s gonna mean a few dozen fewer R votes per state, since we’ve seen repeatedly since the 20 election that: A) The *ONLY* illegitimate votes cast were ALL for the R candidate; And, B) A few dozen per state is NOT a problem. The fascist lost, get over it. This is nothing but a quiet 1st step toward putting all future elections in the hands of R-dominated States’ legislatures, so that they can ‘choose’ a winner(Hint-It’ll DEF be a R who gets ‘chosen’) by simply saying they ‘hear’ or ‘feel’ that fraud was present. THAT…Is NOT Democracy. If you can’t understand that, YOUR vote should be discarded as ‘illegitimate’. Turn off Faux Noise for a while, see if maybe your sanity returns. God help us…Remember when fascism wasn’t part of American Ideals? We fought a whole war over it and everything, you might want to avail yourself to a history book-Or sit in on a 4th grade civics class…You’ve apparently forgotten most of the details in the 70yrs since you were there originally.

Robert, Why do you want to make it easier for people to cheat in election voting? What’s your problem?

If a person has a court appointed guardian of person. Sometimes that person loses their right to vote. Some people are in nursing homes because of mental illnesses that they can be convinced to sign and do anything, causing them to not be able to make their own choices. That does not give a worker to make their voting choice for them. That is voter fraud.
