A Central High School student pleaded not guilty Thursday to a charge of possessing an improvised explosive.

Montgomery Jacobs of Coon Valley was charged last month with allegedly trying to build a pipe bomb at home. A trial will be scheduled in the case.

Police were called to the Jacobs’ home after a metal pipe and a bag of powder were found inside the 18-year-old’s bedroom.

Jacobs claimed he had taken items home from school with the intent to weld some metal.
