Main St. library to close for 3 weeks for renovations; branches will remain open

La Crosse’s main library will be closed for the latter part of February, in order to replace old flooring and make other changes.

The library building on Main Street, built in the 1960s, will be closed from Feb. 12-March 5.

Library director Shanneon Grant says it’s more efficient to shut down the building for the duration of the work.

“We know that if we had to do it in stages, it would cost us a lot more,” Grant told the city library board on Tuesday. “And we have the crew, and we have the supplies, and this is really the most efficient way with the least amount of impact on our patrons.”

The North and South Community Libraries will be open expanded hours during the closure.

  • Monday 10am-6pm
  • Tuesday 10am-6pm
  • Wednesday 10am-8pm
  • Thursday 10am-6pm
  • Friday 10am-6pm
  • Saturday 10am-6pm

All holds on materials that are normally picked up at the Main Branch will be routed to the South Community Library during this time.

The MTU will offer bus passes to make it easier for customers to get to those branch locations.

Thanks for the advance notice. I love the library and use it often! It is a treasure for La Crosse and I am so glad they are updating it.
